Projects

· Hunter Education:  Jeff Goodwin teaches once per month. Check web page for dates, location, and times

· Sensory Safari:  ISE Sensor Safari, Jan 9-12, 2014. We may be combining this event with the Redding and Sac Chapters to man the booth. If you want to help us man the booth, just call us.

· DFG Projects:  Board still looking at key projects to support

· AWLS:  We have one teacher who wants to go to AWLS next summer. Always looking for more interest so if you know of a teacher or educator who would like to attend this weeklong event, let us know.

· Blue Bags:  We have two blue bags to send with any member who is going out of the country to hunt or fish. Most airlines do not charge for these bags as luggage. SCI is now filling these bags with education and medial supplies for anyone who wants to take one on their trip. Just call us and we can arrange it for you.

· CAT Show: Granite Bay SCI paid for the DFG plaques given out during the California Association of Taxidermy show competitions on March 16. We will do this again in 2014.

· Women on Target: June 22 at Coons Creek. Jeff Goodwin spoke about GBSCI and was a coach for over 100 shooters. GB donated costs of shells and guns, thanks to Dan Baker, Cal Ryan, Tony Ingoglia and Al Edwards for their gun loaners along with Jeff’s gun loaners. Pictures will be on our web page soon.  We will support this project again in 2014.

· Granite Bay Chapter has supported a Wounded Warrior Program for a fishing trip out of San Francisco. Once we get the results, we will post on our web page. Great opportunity for the Chapter to help this cause.

· Humanitarian Efforts: Still looking for a food bank that needs and will accept game meat to feed the hungry. If you have a contact, please call us to work on this project.

· Fawn Rescue Program. We are in contact with this organization in Granite Bay to support this project in anyway possible. More to come on this effort. Check them out:kindredspiritsfawnrescue.org

As you can see, we are trying to be very active with our project support. This is a big part of our mission. If you come across any potential project we could support, again contact us to discuss. We are open to any project that supports our mission.

Membership

· The lifeblood of any Chapter is membership. We need new blood and new members to join Granite Bay Chapter. We are dedicated  this term to grow our membership by 10-20 new members and to get renewals of all old members. A membership form is on our web page: www.granitebaysci.com

· SCI International is making some major additions to the SCI membership advantages. One is if a member signs up for three years at a cost of $150 (savings of $45) the Chapter gets 5pts to getting a free life membership in SCI. (100 pt required) This could be a fundraiser option also.

o For a new Life Member or upgrade to an SCI life membership, the Chapter will earn 10 pts towards this free life membership.

o Get 200 pts and the Chapter gets a Browning x-bolt 300 WSM for our fundraiser. So you can see how important it is to get new members and upgrade to 3 yr membership or Life membership

o As SCI announces other changes to the membership, we will post on our web page as an update.

o The key here is we need every member to ask ONE person to join SCI ($65) and join Granite Bay ($25). By doing this we can double our membership quickly and everyone who sponsors a new member will get a Cabelas $25 gift certificate, a no brainier folks.
.
A membership form is on our web page: www.granitebaysci.com or call us at 530-305-7566 and we will email you one, simple.  Here are the costs:

SCI member:      $65     Three Year Member:   $150
Granite Bay:       $25      Senior Member:          $1250
 Life Member:     $1500

Join or upgrade to 3 years or Become a Life Member and you could also win a $10,000 Cabala’s shopping spree! This campaign ends on December 31, 2013. Go to www.safariclub.org/memupgrade to see details. Someone has to win this, could be you?

SCI is also launching a new advertising campaign to help change the image that SCI is only about rich people hunting in Africa and abroad. You have probably seen the adds already in your Safari Times and Safari Magazine. Granite Bay will be using these ad campaigns, their videos and copy art on our web page and facebook page to help build this image. Neat change!

Again, you have all heard of the great effort our members Paul and Renee Snider are trying to do with their Natural History museum. We will keep you posted on our web and facebook of any public meetings that may need attendance from SCI members. We think this is a great project and need to support them anyway we can.

Finally, gun legislation is rampant. Be active, be positive, spread the word, and contact your congressmen and government leaders to vote the right way. Be pro-active; do not think someone else will do the work.

Visit our web page and facebook page and follow us on current happenings. www.granitebaysci.com and https://www.facebook.com/#!/GraniteBaySCI

Thanks; Hope to see you at the Trap Shoot/BBQ on December 7 at Cordova Shooting Club, please RSVP!
